From Busy to Belief.
Q2 begins and the energy is shifting. Can you feel it?
Most teams we’ve been working with are deep into doing; pushing out initiatives, chasing targets, juggling moving parts. And when I sit in with leadership teams, the conversation often sounds like this:
* “We need people to take more ownership.”
* “We’re doing a lot, but it’s not landing.”
* “Why aren’t the teams more engaged?”
It's understandable. In pressurised, delivery-oriented organizations, busy-ness is only natural.
But the question I keep coming back to is:
Where is this all leading?
When vision isn’t being talked about weekly, it gets replaced by “busy-ness”. In times of change, especially when things feel ambiguous or unstable, it’s easy to get pulled into execution. But if no one’s holding the bigger picture, people lose their way. This is not about plastering a mission statement on a wall.
"I’m talking about vision as a felt sense of direction - the ability to connect the work we’re doing today with a future we want to build, and, most importantly, the role each person has in that story. For founders, this is mission critical. The ones I've seen who do this well have a knack for creating real movement within their organisations. They lift people out of the day-to-day by painting a picture of what’s possible. It's not predictable, it's not always tangible - but when done correctly, it leaves people with a feeling. A sense of belief which breeds levels of energy and engagement that most HR teams can only dream of.
They help people see that their work matters. That they’re not just doing tasks - they’re building something.
* And that’s what creates alignment.
* That’s what builds momentum.
* That’s what gives people a reason to care when things get hard.
So if you’re feeling the Q2 grind, see this as your reminder:
The best leaders don't just give direction - they give purpose. Who's holding the vision in your team right now? Who is making that vision real to them?
And if it’s not you, then who?
You got this,

Reconnecting to Vision with the Ambition Map
One of the tools we’ve used most this quarter, with client teams and on my own, is the Ambition Map. It’s designed to help leaders step back from delivery mode and reconnect to a shared picture of success.
We ask teams to look at their work through three lenses:
* ROI: What does commercial success look like?
* Legacy: Who will benefit most from this work — and how?
* Fulfilment: What will make us feel genuinely proud?
You can do it as a ten-year horizon, a one-year check-in, a leadership offsite prompt, or even a simple Monday morning reset.
And what always stands out? Teams are more aligned than they think — they just haven’t said it out loud. And once they do, it’s easier to prioritise, to say no, and to show up with more intention.
If your team is stuck in the weeds, this conversation can be a way to lift them high enough to see the horizon again. (And no, you don’t need a slide deck to do it, but stickers can help.)
Signals + Shifts
What we’re thinking about:
Over coffee recently, a friend in Singapore mentioned how their government plans on a 100-year horizon. I couldn’t stop thinking about that. Can you imagine what it would look like to lead your business with that kind of scope? Not just how to survive Q2, but how to shape something that lasts well beyond you?
The question we’ve been asking leaders lately:
If someone joined your company tomorrow, how would they know what you’re building toward? Not the OKRs. Not the brand pillars. The world-defining, real future. Because if that vision isn’t being talked about weekly, it gets replaced by busy-work.
Field Note from a recent session:
In a leadership team session last week, one exec paused and said:
“I think we’re avoiding long-term thinking because we’re scared of making promises we can’t deliver.”
There was silence. Then agreement. It unlocked the rest of the conversation.
Top Tip
One of the simplest ways to bring vision into the day-to-day?
Start your week with a story. Instead of jumping straight into priorities and pipeline, take five minutes to share something that reconnects the team to what you’re building — and why it matters.
It could be:
* A client moment that reminded you of the impact the company is having
* A shift you’re seeing in the market
* An article or podcast that inspired a spark
* Or even something that’s personally motivating you right now
It doesn’t have to be big or polished. But it helps your team lift their heads up before they dive in. And over time, it creates a rhythm where vision isn’t something you visit once a quarter - it’s something you live in the day to day.
